How to start a baking business in Mauritius?
Hello
Can somebody help me?
I bake (cupcake, cakes, brownies etc.) and i only do for family and friends. But recently i was told that it would be great if i start selling them too.
So i was wondering what do i need to have procedures? legal documents?
I would prefer baking from home itself and delivering it to supermarkets, bakeries etc. for them to do the selling.
I don't know where to begin or how this actually works.
Can someone please enlighten me.
Great thanks

First things first, you will need to register yourself as self employed. I've already written about the procedures, so check them out.
Next is the Food Hygiene Regulations that you need to take into consideration. I'm not sure whether that's going to be achievable at home unless you designate a place which is going to be used solely for baking purposes. Consult SMEDA for more information on this.
You will also need to get the word out if you want to make the business work. Friends and family is a good starting point but you need to also consider other advertising methods.
Check out the National Women Entrepreneur Council as they can provide assistance for you to start up your own business.
