I'm a Mauritian resident by marriage. I'm wanting to set up as a complementary therapist working with tourists. I know I need to register as self employed and with MRA - but do I need to register with the council or government as a therapist? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers
Gilli

Yes,all professionals Must register with the government to be able to practise as a professional and charge people in Mauritius. If not any conman can claim to be a professional and treat people and kill them. Please do the right thing and be a respectable professional

I'm thinking a Health Therapist is similar to Occupational Therapist whereby you'll be working with children, adults and senior citizens. According to The Allied Health Professional Act, you will need to be licenced before you're allowed to practice in Mauritius.

You will need to make an application to the board and will possibly have to pay a fee as well to get on the register. Have a look at the link given above and give the Ministry of Health & Quality of Life a call on 201-2175.

Have something to say?
