Importing Goods in Mauritius

If lets say, I'm importing 2000 pcs of laptop cooler fans from China or India or any other countries, how are the formalities completed?
I know I'll have to pay tax.
Im totally nil on that, and I really need some good info. I tried to have this information from many people, but they're not ready to answer my questions.
My question is simple : If my goods are coming via sea freight or air freight, will I need to produce a Business Card to get these cooler fans? What will I need to produce? What will I need to pay besides the 15% tax?
I don't have a Business Card yet, and I don't have a company.

Hi,
sorry this reply is not really related to importing cooler fans but I remember there was a post about someone wanting to import health supplements but I can't find it anymore. If I want to buy lets say shampoo or conditioners online, is there any health regulations that I should comply to? or can I just buy it and have it shipped as any item?
Thanks
If you have no business card , it s not a big issue.
As an individual you can import products.
First you got to register at MRA [ ID and utility ] will be needed. They will give you a certificate.
After then you will hav to register at Customs house at Mer Rouge [ somewhere near ICAC ].
Then only the freight company will be able to deiver you your products
thanks Nad :)
hello im planning to import cheap jewellery from china and other country the shipping is free
i wanted to know how to proceed when collecting the goods
and procedure sould i follw to be able to import the good??
Hello Shab,
Get into contact with me as soon as you can, I'll do the rest for you.
You will have to pay 15% VAT on the items you're importing. There's no tax, just VAT. I've got this information from the tariff of imports from the MRA website but if I were you, I'd give them a call to double check.
All you need is your Identity Card to collect the goods and the 15% VAT you'll incur. You don't need to have a company in your name, you can be an individual and that's fine.
You can get a Business Card by registering as self employed and paying Rs100.
All the best :)
Thanks loadz! I was thinking whether I'll be needing any kinds of permit or papers. But I think the Business Card will suffice.
Thanks once again :)
You're welcome.
The Business Card gets you discount when you buy at SuperCash (you get things at wholesale prices there) and it would be a good idea to get it if you're thinking of working for yourself, not that you need it for imports though.
