Although the answer can vary from person to person, I'd be interested to know how much you think a person should earn to make a decent living. We're talking about an average person here who's got a modest car, a middle size house and can enjoy a treat once in a while (dinner out, holiday etc).
Please show your breakdown of the costs.

To get by you need at least Rs 25,000 but to live comfortably as the question asks then you need at least Rs 80,000+. Mauritius is more expensive than the UK as I have found out the hard way. Here are my expenses:
Rent/Mortgage Rs 6,000
Food Rs 8,000
Bills Rs 3,000 (includes water, gas, electricity, phone, internet)
Petrol Rs 3,000
Other Rs 5,000 (this includes entertainment, clothes etc)
= Rs 20,000
Lets face it most people here live beyond their means anyway so have loans and other debts to clear. Plus many do not even save because its too hard to.

total mur 30k p.m(aprox euro 750)
well not every mauritian has this type of salary...
most household get around 18-20k....
Here are my future expenses p.m:
For three adults.
1) Basic necessities:
- Food: Rs 4000.
- Clothing: Rs 3000.
- Utilities: Rs 5000.
2) Others:
Car: 5000-6000.
3) Day-to-day expenses for a whole month: Rs 10,000.
I believe that Rs 50,000 should be enough to live a comfortable life.
P.S: Excluding inflation for the coming years.
But different people definitely lead their lives differently.
End of it.

Assuming that the person has a house in his name and lives alone:
Food: Rs3000
Car: Rs2500
Bills (Water+Electricity): Rs1500
Other expenses (small household repairs, cinema, restaurant, etc.) Rs3000

Food will cost more than Rs3000 a month. Frozen fish are around Rs150, frozen chicken Rs190 (5 pieces), coke Rs45, gas cylinder Rs330, frozen lamb Rs150. You can easily spend Rs1500-2000 a week on food for 2 people.
And if you have a mortgage or rent to pay, you need to include that on top.

I forgot to mention I'm a vegan lol. And for me comfortably doesn't mean junk food and soft drinks. It means clean and healthy food. That's why the cost is not so much.
Vegan, uh? Well that's for another discussion :p
By comfortably, I meant that the person would be able to afford the things he wants without going overboard. So meat, veg, anything. Btw good juice costs even more than fizzy drinks. Cape and Ceres are over Rs50!

I don't drink these type of juice. I use my juice-maker (yes I have time to make this xD)
In the past however I admit spending more than I should have.
But everything is a mindset regarding comfortable. My mindset tells me the simpler I am the better I will be. And as a student I don't really have a choice lol.
Perhaps the next article should be on simple living hehe..

Simple living is still just as expensive, one avocado costs a whopping Rs 35, one beetroot costs Rs 35 and a pound of tomatoes Rs 100, I bought three peppers last week and that cost over Rs 150. Fruits are so expensive here and its such a shame that no-one bothers to plant veg anymore. All the spare land that we have here is going to waste.
You also forgot to mention clothes and essentials such as toiletries, they are just as expensive too.

O_O
Did I mention I have a garden? :p
No seriously, for me it's not that high as you're saying. Perhaps I should start noting down my expenses for a month and put it down here.
